Engineering 1954-1964 : Jacob RabinowIn 1954, Rabinow’s Electromechanical Ordnance Division and the two other National Bureau of Standards (NBS) ordnance divisions were about to be broken off and made into an Army installation. Rabinow decided to leave Federal employment to form Rabinow Engineering. Once he set up the company, he decided not to accept any military contracts. He wanted to see if his company could make a go of it in the marketplace without reliance on what he considered inflated military budgets. Rabinow Engineering consulted for many private companies, including Sprague, RCA, Cutler Hammer, Remington-Rand, and Airborne Instruments, but its largest client was the U.S. Postal Service. Drawing on his NBS experience, Rabinow developed a number of successful technologies to mechanize postal operations that were not previously considered susceptible to automation. Objects: |
